Lesedi mayor dismayed by spate of GBV incidents

Lesedi executive mayor Mluleki Nkosi expressed his shock regarding the various GBV incidents in the district.

Lesedi Local Municipality Mayor Mluleki Nkosi has issued a statement and expressed his shock and dismay regarding the latest gender-based violence (GBV) incidents that have taken place within the Lesedi municipal district.

The recent incidents, between December 6 and 10, occurred during the last days of the 16 Days of Activism for No Violence against Women and Children campaign.

They occurred at the municipal flats in Rensburg, near the Ekurhuleni cemetery in Heidelberg Extension 23 and Ratanda Ext Eight.

Nkosi said the sudden upsurge of GBV is of concern.

“To prey on the innocent and people who can’t defend themselves is not acceptable,” he said.

“Everything will be done to apprehend the guilty and bring them to book.”

Nkosi expressed his remorse and condolences to the families concerned in the spate of the latest incidents and called on the community to provide solace and support where it is needed.

Law enforcement is conducting investigations surrounding the circumstances that led to the loss of lives.
Any information regarding these cases and other cases must be reported to the local SAPS.
