Local police are mourning the death of a colleague after Const Bonga Nkululeko Sibiya (33) died on November 11.

According to Sgt Neliswa Dwaba, communications officer for Nigel SAPS, Sibiya reported for duty and was posted as a driver.

Sibiya attended to his duties throughout the day normally, attending to various complaints in all sectors with Sgt Perfect Ndlovu.

At around 16:50 the pair was en route to a complaint along Sastri Street in Alra Park when Sibiya suddenly contracted and slumped against the steering wheel.

Ndlovu leaned over to switch off the vehicle and pull up the handbrake before shaking Sibiya, who opened his eyes but didn’t respond any further.

From there Sibiya only opened his eyes whenever Ndlovu tried to get him to respond.

Ndlovu moved Sibiya to the passenger side and drove back to the station, continuing to try to get Sibiya to respond.

The station also contacted the Local Criminal Record Centre (LCRC) and the mortuary.
