Business chamber elects new exco

The Heidelberg Chamber of Business' AGM saw the election of a new exco and a few new projects in the Chamber's pipeline.

A tough but successful year for the Heidelberg Chamber of Business was reflected on at the chamber’s AGM on November 9.

“I would just like to thank everyone for the year that is behind us,” said Brenda Scott, treasurer of the chamber.

“These last two years have been challenging for all of us. Some members left us while others joined, and sadly, some businesses had to close down.

“But we still managed to show a profit, and for that we are thankful. We trust the next year will be better and brighter.”

Looking back on the past two years and the projects undertaken by the chamber, the members reflected on the cleaning project, TeamUp2CleanUp, and the success thereof.

The chamber hopes to add to this with more successful projects in the year to come.

Paddy Padiachy, who has been part of the chamber for 35 years, received an honourable member certificate for the years of support and commitment he has shown the chamber.

“It has been a great pleasure to be part of Heidelberg for the last 40 years,” Padiachy said.

“I have been in business for 40 years and within the chamber for the last 35 years, and it has been a very good innings. The chamber is doing good work and as one of the older members, I encourage new members to join.

“It’s important to join the chamber because if you don’t join, we have no numbers.

“The chamber is the heart of Heidelberg and we must support it.”

Padiachy thanked the executive committee for honouring him with the certificate.

“It gives me great pleasure to be awarded with this,” he said.

“I look forward to seeing more progress in the future.”

Chamber president Yolandi Boshoff added the chamber is only as strong as its numbers and hopes to recruit more businesses to form part of their future endeavours.

Guest speaker Lucy Loggenberg, of Alpha Educational Services, discussed occupational health and safety with those in attendance and helped them understand the importance of feeling safe in the workplace.

The new executive committee of the chamber was also elected at the AGM. They are:

• Yolandi Boshoff (president)

• Toto Yende (vice-president)

• Brenda Scott (treasurer)

• Yvonne van Coller (marketing)

• Charlene Labuschagne (secretary)

• Mandla Dube (SMME and Lesedi liaison)

• Tony Burisch (tourism and fund-raising).

The new exco of the chamber are Mandla Dube, Yvonne van Coller, Yolandi Boshoff, Brenda Scott, Tony Burisch and Charlene Labuschagne. Absent: Toto Yende.
