Cambridge back to winning ways

The Cambridge team wins again after going back to the drawing board.

After losing its first match of the SAB League, the Cambridge FC team returned stronger to its second match against the Eden Park Callies on home ground.

The match took place at the Mackenzieville Stadium in Alra Park on October 30.

“It was the second league match and our team needed a win,” said coach Ignatius Maphike of the game.

“The match was against an old rivalry of many years back, so it was important that we dominate the game.”

During the first half of the match, Cambridge had control of the game with a combination of good passes and tactical discipline.

Twenty minutes into the first half, Sechaba Masangane scored the first goal of the match and put the Cambridge team on the board.

The confidence taken from its first goal encouraged the team to further dominate the game and Masangane scored his second goal shortly thereafter.

The first half of the match ended with the home team leading 2-0.

“During the second half of the match, we made use of a wing play,” Maphike continued.

“This stretched the opposing team and created more open opportunities for us.”

The spectating crowd encouraged the home team and two more goals were scored.

The opposing team managed to score one goal, leaving the final score 4-1 for the Cambridge team.

“It’s good to win a home game,” said head coach Godfrey Hermanus.

“And it’s also great to bounce back after dropping some points in our previous away game.

“We are happy with the result and we would like to thank the people of Nigel for their support.

“A special thanks to our sponsors and Craigh Cornish, Andre Valla, Leevia Edwards, Amy Amigo, Peter Davids and Jimmy from the Angelo SPAR,” Maphike concluded.
