Siyabonga Feni (34) and Mokgethi Motaung (26) appeared in the Heidelberg Regional Court on October 18, where they were convicted and sentenced for carjacking.
Both men were sentenced to 10 years’ direct imprisonment for carjacking.
The hijacking took place in November 2019, where a resident was robbed of his vehicle by two men, armed with a knife and a firearm, in Rensburg.
One of the men, who was armed with a knife, approached the car. The victim, however, overpowered him and escaped.
The pair drove away with the victim’s car, after which a community member who witnessed the event, chased after them.
They were apprehended in Balfour with the assistance of Balfour SAPS members.
The case was transferred to the Heidelberg SAPS, who investigated with assistance from the Trio Task Team from Sedibeng.
