The return of the race of dreams

The Emperors Palace Road Classic returns on March 27 next year, proudly hosted by Emperors Palace and De Villiers National Cycling (Pty) Ltd.

Billed as The Race of Dreams, the event’s offering is stunning and, true to its origins, constitutes one of the fastest events on the annual calendar, courtesy of the flat route and smooth road surfaces.

The event is presented by De Villiers National Cycling with seasoned race director Wynand de Villiers at the helm.

De Villiers has pioneered and managed a variety of road cycling events over the past 20 years, including the Jock Tour, Emperors Palace Classic, Satellite Classic, Berge en Dale Classic, the Tour of Good Hope, Tour du Cap and Boland 100 Miler.

The event is nicely nestled at a time of year when temperatures are mild going into Autumn and with the chances of rain negligible.

Emperors Palace is the perfect venue for a mass participation cycling event with ample parking and delightful logistical support to ensure a hassle-free experience for participants.

Route

Many riders have completed their personal bests throughout the years in the event, which was founded by De Villiers along with the Edenvale Pedallers in 2008.

The road routes offer fast and flat circuits with good surfaces throughout. The total ascent on the 98km ride is 358 metres while the 40km ride presents 240 metres of vertical ascent.

The event offers the perfect Spring challenge for riders of all fitness levels and abilities.

Safety and the health of riders are of the utmost importance to the race organisation. Awareness and visibility signage will be erected along the route to alert motorists of the event ahead of race day and on the day, while more than 200 marshals and 150 traffic offers are on duty.
