Mob justice turns deadly

The deceased was found dead outside his room.

A body of a 42-year-old man was found on September 26 outside his room in Zamani Section.

Initially, the case was reported as an inquest, but it was changed to a murder investigation after reports emerged that the deceased was assaulted by some residents in the area.

It is alleged that the deceased was assaulted by a group of people who were known to him and his family.
According to reports, a group of people openly accused the deceased of stealing their items and proceeded to assault him in the street.

The deceased was last seen alive entering his house on Ribeiro Street. He was found dead the following morning by his mother when she brought him food.

Police are expected to make arrests soon.

“We wish to appeal to the community to refrain from taking the law into its own hands and carrying out mob justice on suspected offenders,” said Duduza SAPS communications officer Sgt Harry Manaka.

“This can only exacerbate the problem and will not solve the issue and instead get people in trouble with the law.”
