Learners taught about safety during outreach programme

Learners of Shalimar Ridge Primary School were sensitised on safety measures.

Capt Mzwandile Blose and communications officer Const Doris Nkosi of Heidelberg SAPS visited Shalimar Ridge Primary School on September 21 as part of an outreach programme.

They were assisted by Khosi Mokhele and her team from the Department of Education as part of an initiative in conducting school safety programmes at the district level.

The learners of Shalimar Ridge Primary were sensitised on various topics, including that of the school’s code of conduct, the wearing of uniforms and safety measures within school premises and other prohibited activities in class.

Learners were informed and educated on domestic-related matters, crimes against other children and how to build self-esteem.

The learners’ response to the outreach programme was considered positive and made it easier for police members to interact with them.

“As a whole, the initiative was successful, especially in understanding key points in the early developmental stages of the youth.

“We must arm them with an education that will not only improve their lives but also their future,” said Nkosi.

“We aimed to remind the learners at the end of each session that education is the engine that fuels success.”
