Sun International’s Carnival City (SICC) recently opened its doors as a Covid-19 vaccination centre for residents in and outside Ekurhuleni.

The Carnival City vaccination centre was opened two days exclusively for staff members, on August 30 and 31, but opened to the public from September 1.

According to SICC’s corporate image Sarah Anderson, the vaccination site offers a choice between the Pfizer, BioNTech and J&J vaccines.

Walk-ins are welcome but guests need to be registered on the government’s electronic vaccination data (EVD) system and will be required to produce valid ID documents, said Anderson in a statement.

Carnival City general manager Annemie Turk said they felt the need to assist following the health minister’s appeal to all South Africans to get vaccinated, adding that they have the space and their property is easy to access.

“The decision to partner with government and MediCare24 to run a vaccination centre was an easy one to make. Our industry has been hard hit by the pandemic so a priority for us right now is to save jobs,” said Turk.

“For that to happen, we need our economy to fully reopen, which can only happen once the majority of South Africans have been vaccinated. We appeal to everyone over 18 to please get vaccinated.”

The centre is located at Carnival City’s Sun Park. It can be accessed on weekdays between 09:00 and 17:00 and weekends between 09:00 and 14:00.

Carnival City will be managing the site with MediCare24, who will be responsible for the vaccine storage, administering of vaccines and monitoring effects.

The public is encouraged to visit the vaccination site to get a jab. Anyone who is not on medical aid will be vaccinated free of charge.
