Clifford Basson was found guilty in a case of murder and sentenced effectively for 23 years.

James Randal was found guilty at Pretoria High Court and sentenced to 12 years for murder and three years for defeating the ends of justice.

Alice Graham was found guilty of sexual assault and murder. He died in prison at Johannesburg correctional services before sentencing.

• On August 18, Heidelberg SAPS social crime prevention and domestic violence coordinator assisted by Const Doris Nkosi from corporate communication visited Sedaven High School to educate students about sexual offences, domestic violence and respect in general.

Heidelberg SAPS visited Sedaven High School to educate learners about sexual offences.

The learners of Sedaven High school were intrigued with the visit from the police and were free to ask questions and engage with the police about anything that related to crime.

Learners were sensitised about all sexual offences, protection orders, domestic violence-related matters, how to conduct and respect themselves, when to say no and how to build their self-esteem and self-confidence.

• On August 19 Heidelberg SAPS started with a roadblock operation at the Heidelberg weighbridge N3 road, which included stop and search of motorists driving from Durban to Johannesburg.

Officials enforced Covid-19 regulations by checking if motorists adhere to curfew times and leisure travel restrictions. Heidelberg SAPS performed these duties to prevent and combat crime and to ensure a safe environment for the community of Heidelberg.

• On August 26, Samuel Balate from Universal church Ratanda visited Heidelberg SAPS to pray for the police officials. Balate said that police also need protection because of the nature of their duties.

Samuel Balate from Universal Church Ratanda will be visiting Heidelberg SAPS daily to pray for police officials’ protection.

He expressed his concern about police officials being attacked and their lives cut short and further said that he will be visiting the police office daily to pray for their safety.

• SAPS members conducted operation Basadi in support of Women’s Month, to raise awareness on gender-based violence (GBV) and road safety.

SAPS members conducted operation Basadi on August 28 at the Heidelberg Weighbridge on the N3 in support of Women’s Month.

After the operation was officially opened at 09:00 at the Heidelberg Weighbridge on the N3 highway on August 27, members proceeded with a roadblock to sensitise motorists on the topic.

Motorists were further encouraged to report any form of GBV and other forms of abuse. The same operation was conducted by Nigel SAPS.
