Police arrested a 33-year-old man for the murder of his girlfriend (27) on August 13.
It is alleged the man arrived at his home in Mabena Street, where a fight between the couple ensued.
During the fight, the girlfriend was assaulted on the forehead several times with a stove poker.
The man then called an ambulance and his girlfriend was taken to Pholosong Hospital, where she was declared dead on arrival.
Hospital staff alerted the police, who immediately arrested the man.
Duduza SAPS summoned forensic experts who gathered evidence pointing to the man as the suspect.
Duduza SAPS station commander Lt-Col Bheki Mhlungu expressed his sadness relating to the killing of a woman, especially during a time when women activism is celebrated.
He commended the swift action by the police in arresting the man.
