How to access R350 special Covid-19 grant

You need to apply even if you received this grant previously.

Following the announcement by President Cyril Ramaphosa, Sassa wishes to inform applicants of the R350 special Covid-19 grant of different channels they can use to apply for the special grant.

These application channels include the following:

The qualifying criteria of the R350 grant are as follows:

• South African citizens, permanent residents, refugees, asylum seekers, special-permit holders (Angola, Lesotho and Zimbabwe)

• No source of income or financial support

• Above the age of 18 and below 60

• Not receiving a social grant for themselves

• Not awaiting UIF or qualifying for one

• Not receiving NSFAS or approved for NFSAS

• Currently residing within the borders of South Africa

• Not in any state institution

All qualifying applicants must complete their application using the channels above. This includes the applicants who received the R350 grant in the previous cycle.

They need to refresh their information on the system and agree to the declaration, as well as give Sassa consent and confirmation that their circumstances have not changed.

Unemployed caregivers who do not receive any social grant for themselves but who receive children grants, such as child support, foster care grant and care dependency grant.

This is because grant money received by these caregivers is for the children and not for themselves. Applicants who were previously rejected and currently in unchanged circumstances are advised to apply as well.

Upon application, applicants are encouraged to have their valid and active bank account information ready if they do not wish to receive the grant from the post office.

There is another option to choose electronic vouchers, which can be accessed from your bank of choice.

The application for the special R350 Covid-19 grant shall be considered from the month of application until the end of March 2022, if the applicants’ circumstances have not changed upon information verification.

Applicants are requested to submit only one application and not apply multiple times through multiple channels. Gauteng has registered a total of 474 080 applications with 141 635 (30%) being mainly caregivers.

The national figure stands at 2 150 204 of which 723 620 (34%) are caregivers.

Beneficiaries who have not yet collected their R350 grant awarded from the previous cycle are advised to check their status on the system and if approved for payment; they must bring their identity documents to collect their grant at the nearest post office.
