SmartMobilityWeekends initiative continues in Lesedi

According to Mamabolo, SmartMobilityWeekends will continue every weekend for at least the next six months.

The MEC for Public Transport and Roads Infrastructure, Jacob Mamabolo, joined forces with Lesedi Local Municipality mayor Mlulki Nkosi as SmartMobilityWeekends operations continued in the streets of Heidelberg on July 31 and August 1.

The SmartMobilityWeekends programme was launched in February as part of the MEC’s commitment towards fixing roads across Gauteng.

The initiative supports the 100 days infrastructure programme launched in April by Nkosi in an effort to accelerate service delivery through roadshows that he will personally be overseeing with a focus on repairing roads, patching potholes, renewing road signs and fixing traffic lights across Heidelberg suburbs.

Lesedi Local Municipality mayor Mlulki Nkosi lead members of the infrastructure maintenance team as they took on several streets in Heidelberg to start patching potholes.

Nkosi committed his efforts to ensure that road infrastructure receives priority attention. Since the inception of the 100 days for infrastructure, 90% of the potholes in Ratanda have been patched. The deteriorating roads at the Shalimar Ridge taxi rank have also been attended to.

On July 31, potholes were patched in Mertz Street, Mare Street, Apsey Street and Louw Street, and on August 1, the team continued the patchwork at Japie Street and Wilson Street.

A number of locations around town were visited including the Heidelberg taxi rank to inspect if Covid 19 protocols and regulations were being adhered to.

According to Mamabolo, SmartMobilityWeekends will continue every weekend for at least the next six months.

“We are delighted with the work done so far and with the support we receive from local government,” Nkosi said.

Lesedi Local Municipality mayor Mlulki Nkosi took on the pothole infested roads of Heidelberg as part of the SmartMobilityWeekends operations and the 100 days of infrastructure maintenance roadshow Nkosi launched in April.
