SAPS and security on alert around Heidelberg Mall

Information was received from Metro Police around 11:00 today that four busses with passengers were on route from Vosloorus to Heidelberg Mall. 

It was alleged that it could be related to possible looting.

The Community Safety Unit, Heidelberg SAPS, Rural Security, Community Police Forum and the Taxi Association all worked together and immediately deployed patrollers to various entry points into Heidelberg.

Patrollers are still on patrol and community members are requested to be vigilant. Around 60 patrollers and community members responded to assist and no incidents of looting or protest has yet been reported in Heidelberg or Nigel area.

Crime Stop further confirmed that no looting is taking place anywhere in Heidelberg at the moment and that all  emergency services have been mobilised and is monitoring the situation in and around town.  Shopping centers are open to the public while security remain on high alert.
