Update on Nigel power frustrations

The power outage will most likely continue until the weekend.

NIGEL – Wollaston Labuschagne, ward councillor for Nigel (Ward 88), informed residents at 13:25 on June 22 that the power outage will most likely last until the weekend.

Labuschagne confirmed that he engaged with the Ekurhuleni area engineer for the Springs, Nigel and Dunnottar areas at the energy department in Springs.

“The area engineer confirmed that the current challenge is that they are awaiting cost estimates or quotes from contractors,” said Labuschagne.

“They have also been put in contact with some other contractors who have done similar construction and electrical work before.

“Hopefully, by this afternoon or on Wednesday at the latest, they should have the quotes and use their emergency funding from the energy department with the approval of their head of department.

“The contractors’ quotes must be accepted before the process of reconstructing the collapsed pylon can begin to resolve our electricity crisis.”

Labuschagne advised that the electricity will most likely not be restored until this weekend.
