Power structure collapse, Nigel affected

According to Labuschagne, the pylon structure collapsed yesterday around 16:30.

The continued power outage in Nigel, which started yesterday (June 20) around 16:30, was caused by a collapsing pylon structure near the Coca-Cola factory in Sub-Nigel.

The power outage is affecting the majority of Nigel and the surrounding areas.
According to Wollaston Labuschagne, ward councillor for Nigel (Ward 88), the collapse of the 88 000V pylon was due to alleged stolen bolts from the structure.

“I have spoken to our area engineer,’ said Labuschagne at 09:15 this morning.
“The energy department is awaiting a cost estimate from their contractor to repair the pylon structure.

“They are also investigating an alternative route which could be used to supply the affected areas for the interim.
“The department has given no estimated time for the restoration. I will keep the community updated.”

No response has yet been received from the City of Ekurhuleni.
Updates surrounding the power outage will follow as it is received.
