Warm soup for the needy

Meals on Wheels handed out food parcels in local communities.

The Meals on Wheels Heidelberg branch handed out food parcels to the Jamesonpark and Ratanda communities on May 28.

On the day, 590 meals were distributed throughout these communities.

“It is estimated that 690 million people in South Africa do not have sufficient food daily,” said Douw Grobler, the leader of Heidelberg Meals on Wheels.

“This is indeed a tragedy and an unfortunate reality for many amongst us.

“Heidelberg Meals on Wheels had the privilege to participate in the World Hunger Day initiative on Friday and help some of our community members in their need.”

Meals in the form of vegetable soup and sandwiches were distributed.

The organisation also aimed to distribute food at Ratanda Bertha Gxowa Primary School.

“We knew that the school has a food hall for underprivileged children,” Grobler explained, “and it was truly sad to see the children coming to us with empty containers to ask for some food.

“We would also like to thank our donors and sponsors who make making a difference possible.

“We wouldn’t be able to serve our communities without your continued support and help.

“If anyone would like to support our mission, please feel free to reach out to us. Your donation will make a difference in someone’s life.”

For more information about donating to the organisation, contact Grobler on 079 606 4505.
