Visible policing yields successful results

Police arrest two men during the search.

RATANDA – The Sedibeng District Vispol and Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) left no stone unturned during a search of a house at the corner of Bambisa and Madonsela streets in Ratanda Extension 23 on May 15.

The police reacted to complaints from the community regarding random shootings in the residential area, along with complaints of drug usage, and the matter was reported to the Sedibeng district commissioner’s office for urgent attention.

Vispol’s deputy district commissioner, Brig Pule Phillip Mokoena, activated a team to react to the complaints and to remove illegal firearms from unauthorised hands.

A quick response led to the discovery of an illegal firearm and magazine, six Mandrax tablets, four packets containing nyaope and eight pieces of rock (crack cocaine).

The firearm, which was reported stolen at Duduza SAPS, will be sent for forensic testing to determine if it has been used in the commission of other crimes.

The Sedibeng district commissioner, Maj-Gen Zodwa Ettie Molefe, and district management applauded the effectiveness, efficiency and skills shown to bring perpetrators to book.

Police members arrested two men for possession of an unlicensed firearm and possession of drugs, respectively.

The arrested pair will appear in the Heidelberg Magistrate’s Court soon.
