Business robbers caught

The injured men fled the scene.

Police arrested three men for business robbery on May 12.

The arrests followed a robbery and shoot-out at an Alrapark tuck shop at 9pm on May 9.

The owner of the tuck shop, who is a foreign national, was closing for the day in the company of his two brothers when three men held them up at gunpoint and forced them back into the shop.

The men demanded money and cellphones from the victims.

The trio then proceeded to ransack the shop, taking cigarettes, groceries, cash and five cellphones.

While the robbery was in progress, two SAPS members patrolling the area were alerted to the incident. As they entered the shop, they were met by the three men. The men started shooting at the police.

Police returned fire and injured two of the men, who still fled the scene.

On Tuesday, police received information that one of the men suspected of being involved in the robbery was at an address in Alrapark.

Arriving at the residence, police found a man who was wounded. He was arrested and the other suspects were traced and arrested.

The injured pair received medical attention.

Nigel SAPS management applauded the officers for their swift reaction and members of the community for working with the police in combating crime.
