The City of Ekurhuleni will assist residents aged 60 or older to register on the Covid-19 Electronic Vaccination Data System (EVDS).
The system is now open for registration of the elderly as announced by the National Department of Health.
Ekurhuleni’s health practitioners will work with the South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) to target social grant pay points, and churches to register citizens aged 60 years and older who wish to be next in line to receive the Covid-19 vaccination.
MMC for Health and Social Services Clr Nomadlozi Nkosi said the City wants to ensure that no one who wishes to be vaccinated is left out from registering on the EVDS, regardless of their access to an internet connection.
“Our health practitioners are coordinating with the ward-based outreach team members, community development workers and community support programme personnel to assist in registering the elderly during their daily door-to-door campaigns,” Nkosi said.
Residents who can register by themselves but do not have an internet connection are encouraged to use the free Wi-Fi available at the City’s libraries, clinics and customer care centres.
How to register:
• Make sure you have internet access.
• You will need a smartphone, a tablet or a computer.
• Connect to the internet and go to https://vaccine.enroll.health.gov.za/ The welcome screen will guide you through the steps.
• Follow the instructions and put in all the details the system asks for.
• When you are finished, the system will send an SMS to the phone number you provided. This means that the system now has your details in a queue to be scheduled for your vaccine.
• You will then receive an SMS with a date and the place where you will be vaccinated. You will be sent to the vaccination centre that is closest to your home. Some may be directed to their places of work.
• If you have problems, you may contact the Covid-19 hotline on 0800 029 999.
• Citizens will be provided with a proof of vaccination card and receive a confirmation SMS on their phones.
