Two suspected narcotics dealers arrested by EMPD members

The two men are facing charges of possession of and possible dealing in illicit substances.

Narcotics, including khat and crystal meth, were seized in Nigel on April 20 during an anti-drugs operation.

The operation was conducted by members of the EMPD Drug Enforcement Unit (DEU) between 7.30am and 9.30am, and a stop-and-search was carried out. Two suspicious-looking men, aged 29 and 39, were found at the corner of Reitz and Kerk streets.

They were handcuffed after the DEU members uncovered 23 ziplock bags of khat and 49 ziplock bags of crystal meth in their possession.

The drugs are valued at approximately R21 200.

The EMPD took the arrested pair to the Nigel Police Station.

The apprehended pair faces charges of possession of and possible dealing in illicit substances, and are expected to appear in the Nigel Magistrate’s Court shortly.
