Business robbers caught

Duduza SAPS arrested three men in connection with a robbery at a post office.

Three men were arrested by Duduza SAPS after a robbery at the Bluegumview Post Office last Wednesday.

The incident took place around 1.30pm, where it is alleged three men entered the post office pretending to be from a courier company.

Upon their entrance, the men immediately closed the doors and pointed firearms at staff members.

They took an undisclosed amount of cash.

A member of the community alerted police to the robbery.

The police caught up with the men as they tried to get away, leading to a shoot-out. One man was shot and injured, while a police officer sustained injuries after he tackled one of the men to the ground.

In addition to apprehending the men, police also recovered some of the cash, along with two unlicensed firearms.
The injured police officer and suspect were taken to hospital.

The trio faces charges of business robbery, attempted murder and possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.

Duduza SAPS station commander Lt-Col Bheki Mhlungu applauded the bravery of the members who responded with urgency to the scene, along with community members who aided in finding the perpetrators.
