Security company foils hijacking

The man was arrested in Vereeniging after attempting to steal a car.

Police arrested a middle-aged man for attempted hijacking along Pheasant Street in Falcon Ridge, Vereeniging, on Tuesday at around 8.15 pm.

A 42-year-old woman drove into the premises as her 14-year-old child opened the gate. The woman saw an unknown man assaulting her child with a firearm before she noticed another unknown man heading towards the driver’s side of the car.

The victim climbed out of the car and screamed for help. Her husband came running out of the house and grabbed the man who was already seated behind the wheel.

The perpetrators were running away when the commotion caught the eye of guards from a private security company, who chased them.

One of the men was arrested.

Sedibeng SAPS acting district commissioner Brig Pule Phillip Mokoena appreciated the good partnership with private security in reducing crime.
