HEIDELBERG – Police arrested a 27-year-old man on Friday afternoon for drunk and negligent driving.
The arrest was made in Voortrekker Street in the Shoprite Centre parking area.
WO Lukas Wolmarans, Sgt Vusimuzi Zondo and Capt Jean Pierre Lewis were on patrol and conducting crime prevention duties in the area when the motorist entered the complex at high speed through a no-entry exit.
The police members stopped the driver. Inside the vehicle, members found two open beer bottles.
The driver had another open beer bottle between his thighs, while his passenger also held an open beer bottle.
The man, who was out on bail for a similar offence two weeks ago, was immediately arrested.
He will appear in the Heidelberg Magistrate’s Court soon.
