Devon farmer tied up during robbery on farm

Devon SAPS is investigating a case of robbery on a farm that occurred on January 17.

Four men entered Wolwebank Farm, one armed with a knife.

The 56-year-old victim was watching television when he heard a bang on the door.

He went to investigate, opened the back door, and was confronted by the four suspects.  He tried to close the door but the suspects overpowered him and entered the house.

The suspects demanded money and pushed the victim into the bedroom, where he was instructed to kneel down before they tied him up with an electric wire.

The suspects then enquired if the victim had a firearm. When he said he doesn’t, they threatened to kill him. The suspects ransacked his bedroom and left him there.

The suspects took a Samsung TV, electrical appliances, tools and a generator, which they loaded into the victim’s Tata bakkie.

The 35-year-old farm assistant noticed the bakkie carried appliances from the house and ran to the neighbours to get help. As they approached the house, they saw the suspects leaving and the neighbour fired two shots; the suspects started running away.

One suspect was shot in the lower body and taken for medical attention. Another suspect was arrested as he was fleeing the scene.

The two other suspects fled the scene on foot.

Anyone who might have information that could assist in the arrest of the suspects can contact Crime Stop on 08600 10111 or make use of the MYSAPS app.
