New station commander appointed at Heidelberg SAPS

Col Phiwe Ndwandwe was appointed as the new station commander for Heidelberg SAPS on December 14.

With 28 years of service, a national diploma in policing, a BTEC in policing and a bachelor of policing practice, he is well equipped and ready for the task at hand.

“Crime is not in the office, it is in the streets and that is where I will be,” Ndwandwe said.

Ndwandwe started his policing career in Germiston where he met his wife who is a detective in the police service. They have five children and stay in Dinwiddie.

“I am here to serve and to work in partnership with the community so we can stand together and fight crime. We can only do that if we support each other,” he added.

When asked what his short-term goals were, he said:

“There are a lot of communication groups among residents, business owners, security companies and farmers. It is vital that these groups work in partnership with the police. The community is our eyes and by working in partnership with the police, we can combat high-crime areas,” Ndwandwe said.

The station commander wants to establish a forum where all platforms get together once a month.
Ndwandwe has a heart for farmers and is planning to meet with the farming community and to establish a neighbourhood watch among the farms.

“Domestic workers are often at the forefront of robberies. I want to establish a Domestic Workers Forum where the workers can be taught basic security measures. I also think it is important that all farm workers be screened. I want to work with farmers and ensure that the police have a file for each of the farm workers. The screening of the workers might identify illegal immigrants and could assist in police investigations should a criminal incident occur,” Ndwandwe added.

The Heidelberg SAPS seems to be in good hands and on behalf of the Heidelberg community, we welcome Col Phiwe Ndwandwe and look forward to combatting crime together.
