Drug dealer busted by Ratanda SAPS

• Heidelberg SAPS advised that a 37-year-old male suspect was arrested for possession of drugs at the corner of Heidelberg and Boschoek roads in Ratanda location on November 29.

• Sgt Neliswa Dwaba from the Nigel SAPS advised that Devon SAPS are investigating a case of hijacking and murder after police received a complaint from a resident in Impumelelo location.

Upon arrival at the scene, police found a man with gunshot wounds who was hijacked. The suspects had fled the scene in his red Volkswagen Golf 5 with registration number FZ 73 MX GP. The police gave chase. A shoot-out ensued, during which the suspects abandoned the vehicle in Zenzele, Endicott, Springs. The victim, while en route to Heidelberg hospital, died. The suspects are unknown.

Police received a tip-off about a man in a blue Opel Corsa selling drugs. The quick response by Crime Prevention Team members led to the discovery and arrest of the driver. On arrival, a body and car searches were conducted.

Sixteen packets of drugs were found hidden underneath the gear lever cover. The suspect was arrested immediately and the drugs and vehicle were confiscated. Ratanda SAPS station commander Lt Col Makgora Selota commended the good partnership with CPF and community at large in eradicating crime within the area. The arrested suspect will appear in the Heidelberg Magistrate’s Court soon.

• On November 28, the Sedibeng District Rural Safety Coordinators Team paraded at Heidelberg SAPS to start activating the effectiveness of the Rural Safety Crime Prevention Operation. The team visited newly established Heidelberg Auctioneers, situated at Houtpoort Plots in Rensburg South.

The Sedibeng Rural Safety Coordinators Team checked the compliance for branding and ear-tagging of live stock. They also looked for papers or documents to transport live stock and proof of purchase of animals as per the requirements of Stock Theft Act and regulations.

Police issued nine fines of R5 800 to those who were non-compliant with the Stock Theft Act and regulations and National Road Traffic Regulations pertaining the requirements on transportation of live stock.

Police found 16 packets of drugs. The suspect was immediately arrested. Drugs and the vehicle used to sell drugs were seized.
