Lights, camera, action for future stars

HEIDELBERG – Icons Talent Management is an acting agency managed and owned by couple Daniel and Violet Maseko.

Performing arts is not new to the Masekos, who have three daughters who are all involved in acting, performing and singing.

The 22-year-old Sthandwa’s talent was recognised in 2016 when she was chosen through Just You Model and Arts Management to go to Florida in the United States. Unfortunately, this dream could not realise due to financial difficulties.

Gugulethu (18) has the gift of singing. Although music is in her blood, she is also an icon in acting and is seen in the TV series Gomora on Mzansi Magic Chanel 161.

In February, Sthandwa completed her one-year learnership in film and TV production. She couldn’t find a job and told her parents they must start a company, and so Icons Talent Management was born.

“There is a lot potential in the community and our goal is to find it, provide training and assist in finding castings,” Violet said.

Daniel said: “We started by advertising on social media platforms in February and have 25 active members and am growing. We assess everyone who wants to join and the ones who are not as good, we guide and coach. We don’t send people away, and that is what makes us special.”

Icons Talent Management already produced up-and-coming stars and have their students performing in roles in television series (Rhythm City, Gomora) and commercials.

Thami Mbonge is a professional actor, writer and director who has a passion for performing arts and especially for facilitating and teaching new students.

Rorisang Mandy Mokoena, Prince Mofokeng and Lerato Khambule were some of the actors performing in the production directed by Thami Mbonge.

“I recently moved to Gauteng from the Eastern Cape and was thrilled when asked to be involved in this amazing concept. What I love most is that Icons Talent Management invests in the youth and once they are ready, they also assist in finding them a role,” Thami said.

Thami trained the group of performers for the past nine months and on November 19 it was their time to shine as the students showcased their talents through monologues, singing, dancing and a short production.  Mamello Mohlamme, cast coordinator at Bomb Productions, was the guest of honour; he scouted for talent during the showcase.

“I am amazed by the talent in the community and looking forward to seeing great things,” Mamello said.

The showcase ended with a standing ovation from the audience and the words of Thami: “There is no small role, only a small actor. The smallest role can be an actor’s biggest breakthrough. Watch this space as these young talented performers are heading for centre stage.”
