Nine-year-old writes and records first song

Her song is called High Five and Chrissy is very proud of the work she has done and put in to making this dream come true.

Chrissy de Beer, a learner at Ridgewood College in Benoni, recently recorded her first song she wrote and sang herself.

“I am very excited because I can express how I feel about the virus and how it feels not seeing my friends because of the lockdown,” said Chrissy.

This is very exciting for the nine year old and her family as the song will be aired on radio as well as other various platforms, such as iTunes and Spotify.

Her song is called High Five and Chrissy is very proud of the work she has done, and put into making this dream come true.

“The song is about how she misses seeing and playing with her friends during the lockdown and that we are alone together, we need to protect each other so that we can be together again,” explained Tasha de Beer, Chrissy’s mother.

Chrissy wrote and recorded her debut song at River Road Records in Port Elizabeth with Gino Lee, who opened the recording studio at the beginning of this year.

Gino is a multi-talented performer with an enormous passion for music, who recently returned to South Africa after spending three successful years in the USA.

Posted online in the Herald Live, Gino said:

“Opening a recording studio is something I felt needed to happen eventually and over the years I learnt so much from the people I’ve worked with in New York and Los Angeles. One of those people, for instance, is producer Matt Henry whom I worked with at Skylight Studios in LA and he taught me so much about building a studio as I was there with him as he built his around 2016.”

A singer, actor, pianist, music producer and model, Gino wears many hats, with music being his foremost passion.

Now that Chrissy has written and recorded her song, this means Chrissy can perform, showcase and release her first debut single in the songwriting category at the International Model and Talent Association 2020 (IMTA) next year and start to work on her second song.

Chrissy’s other achievements:

The youngster was recently selected to attend the IMTA competition in New York City, chosen to take part in not only one, but four of the categories: Singing, dancing, acting and modelling, but with the Pandemic hitting, the IMTA was postponed.

The IMTA’s will be taking place in New York in July 2021 which means instead of entering four categories she will be entering five, adding song writing to her list of many achievements.

Although she doesn’t yet have a recording contract, she was signed for this specific song in collaboration with 33andMe Talent Agency and River Road Records.

“Chrissy’s dream is to sign with a major record label in the US and she has every hope in the world that one day she will indeed live this dream,” said Tasha.

The next big thing for the Grade Three learner is her performance of High Five at the 10th Annual AITS Showcase, which takes place from October 29 to 31 at Silverstar Casino, as an alumni guest performer.

High Five will be released in December.
