Counterfeit goods makers arrested in Petit

The duo was arrested during a crime prevention operation conducted by the EMPD Equestrian Unit members.

A 29-year-old man and a 33-year-old woman were arrested for dealing in counterfeit goods on October 17 in Petit around 8am.

EMPD spokesperson Kobeli Mokheseng said during the tactical patrols, members noticed a suspicious white Ford panel van, driven by the alleged suspect, who was exiting a plot on Meerkat road.

“A stop and search was conducted and the officers requested the documents, for transporting the items found on the panel van,” said Mokheseng.

Sealed packages of shoe polish, a variety of roll-ons, baking powders, dry yeast, and facial creams, etc. were discovered.

“The man then volunteered to show the members the rest of the merchandise inside the plot.”

The female occupant was found sorting out suspected counterfeit goods.

Mokheseng said more ready to be packaged groceries, empty branded containers, three imported seal, engrave, package and products transfer machines, detergents, hygiene’s, and cosmetics were found inside the plot.

The department of health with anti-counterfeit specialists was summoned to the scene.

The duo was immediately arrested and detained at the Crystal Park Police Station.

They are expected to appear at the Benoni Magistrate’s Court soon.
