SAPS Heidelberg crime report (18 to 21 August)

SAPS Heidelberg warned that theft of electric gatemotors are on the rise.

The public is advised to be vigilant and place a safety clamp over their gatemotors.
According to Capt Madeleine von Wieligh (SAPS Heidelberg spokesperson), theft of motor vehicles are on the increase. A red Toyota Etios with registration number DL22BGGP was stolen on the corner of Voortrekker and HF Verwoerd Street on August 20.

Heidelberg SAPS warned that a number of car hijackings were reported. With the help of the community patrollers, patrols were intensified.
A robbery occurred at Ackermans in Voortrekker Street. Capt Von Wieligh informed that robbers entered the store at 13:15 on August 18. Staff and clients were held at gunpoint and forced into the kitchen. The robbers escaped with an undisclosed amount of cash and cellphones. This is the second robbery at Ackermans within the past month.

Shalimar Ridge business district was also under attack when a supermarket was robbed on August 20 around 19:10. The complainant alleged that he was in the shop when a group of men entered. One suspect was armed and demanded cash, cigarettes and airtime. The suspects escaped but was later tracked to Ratanda. Two suspects were arrested and charged with armed robbery.
