Vandals tamper with electrical supply

An electrical box and mini substation were broken into over the weekend on the corner of HF Verwoerd and Unie Street.

A similar incident happened on Friday August 21 around 23:00 on the corner of Marais and Van der Westhuizen Street. As the boxes are not locked, culprits easily gain access to remove cables and switches. Angered residents also informed HERAUT of the power outage on Saturday (August 22) in Jameson Park where power was disrupted for almost 36 hours. Numerous complaints were lodged with Lesedi Local Municipality (LLM) electrical department about the ongoing power outages.

“With each complaint, workers are sent to the area but the power issues are not resolved,” Retha Vogel-du Plessis said.

She added that according to LLM workers, the power station can not handle the demand for power since the inception of housing developments in the area.
