The adjusted approach of delivering services at SASSA local offices

BALFOUR - SASSA in Mpumalanga is currently operating on 50% staff capacity, but say they are working around the clock to take as many applications as they can.

Where clients cannot be served in the time available, appointments are to be made for those who could not be serviced and to return on the set date to complete the application process.

This has led to SASSA working in phases whereby some days are reserved for certain social grants applications in this approach. On Monday and Tuesday will service old age applications. Wednesday and Thursday will service Child support and foster child grant applications for all children and caregivers.

Friday will be for Disability services for disability grants, Care dependency grants and Grants-in-aid, on appointment in line with the approved phase-in strategy and according to available resources for assessments in the Department of Health facilities.

The South African Social Security Agency would like to inform clients that the Social Relief of Distress (SRD) applications will no longer be done at local offices, except for emergency cases and where assistance is required following a disaster (other than the Covid-19 pandemic).

SASSA appeals to all clients visiting Local Offices to always wear face masks and comply when asked to be sanitized and registered on entry. No client will be allowed in any SASSA building if they fail to comply. Furthermore, no children are allowed at SASSA offices.

Applications for the special relief grant of R350 per month to be done electronically through the following channels: WhatsApp number: 082 046 8553; SASSA website:  https://srd.sassa.gov.za
