Educators, hospital staff test positive for Covid-19

A teacher from Ratanda Primary School reportedly tested positive for Covid-19 and according to a concerned parent, a second teacher tested positive last week.

“This information was not communicated to parents by the school. The school merely sent out a letter two days after re-opening of the schools, stating the school will be closed again for deep cleaning,” the parent said.

Parents are concerned that their children may have been exposed to the coronavirus during that time and said they do not feel comfortable sending their children back to school this year.

Gauteng premier David Makhura and the Gauteng Coronavirus Command Council on June 11 confirmed that over 50 schools have closed due to Covid-19 cases shortly after re-opening.

HERAUT has also learned that Heidelberg Hospital has also tightened its Covid-19 precautionary measures, following two positive tests last week when a patient and a security guard both tested positive for Covid-19.

According to Lebohang Khumalo (CEO of Heidelberg Hospital), this comes after mass testing of all staff members was done. She added that the security houses and hospital buildings have since been deep cleaned and sanitised, to ensure the safety of all patients and personnel.
