Bergsig residents left in the dark after cable theft

Cable theft that occurred near Heidelberg Mall on June 9, has left Bergsig residents without electricity for over 20 hours.

According to Katleho Seaga (acting communications officer at Lesedi Local Municipality (LLM)) an electrical team worked tirelessly to restore electricity to affected households.

He confirmed that although many cables were severely vandalised, contractors received the necessary parts to repair all the damaged cables and they replaced the stolen ones.

“The power was back on at 22:00 the same day,” Seaga confirmed.

A concerned resident contacted HERAUT on June 9, saying the unexpected power outage which lasted most of the day, almost had a devastating effect on their lives as a family member in her household is dependent on an oxygen machine to breathe.

Members of the public are urged to report suspects or suspect behaviour, by phoning SAPS Heidelberg on 016 341 0343.
