Heidelberg family left traumatised after robbery

A family was tied up, held at gunpoint and robbed by five armed men in Overkruin, Heidelberg.

The incident occured on January 11 around 00:15 when five armed suspects entered the house and forced the family to the floor.

The victims were tied up and robbers demanded the location of the safe. After being informed that there is no safe, the robbers proceeded to raid the house.

The suspects loaded the stolen items into one of the victims BMW X3. The suspects forced another victim to use his own car and lead them out of the security complex.

After successfully exiting Overkruin, the suspects led the victim to Spaarwater where they abandoned him with his car.

According to Captain Thivhulawi Tshilate (police spokesperson) the suspects escaped with the BMW and the stolen items.

“The vehicle was later recovered in Reiger Park with none of the stolen items. No arrests have been made,” he said.
