Evasive murder suspect caught after two days

After evading the law for a couple of days, a 26-year-old suspect from Duduza (Nigel) was finally arrested and charged with murder.

According to SAPS Duduza spokesperson Sgt Harry Manaka, the suspect was arrested on November 13 in the Zamani area, following a two-day head-hunt by the police. It is alleged that the suspect stabbed his girlfriend to death inside their rented room in Masechaba View on November 11.

“Her body was concealed next to the bed and discovered by relatives when they searched for her later that day,” Sgt Manaka said.

The suspect had been on the run since the incident and community members joined forces with the police to search for him.

“He was finally traced to a house in Zamani Section, where he was cornered by members of the community. Upon arrival of the police, he was immediately arrested.”

SAPS Duduza station commander Lt Col Bheki Mhlungu expressed relief on the successful arrest of the suspect and reiterated the commitment by the police in Duduza to continue putting extra efforts in the fight against gender based violence.

The suspect is expected to appear in Nigel Magistrate’s Court on November 18.
