Trucks torched on N3

Three trucks were set alight causing havoc on the N3 north just before the Barry Marais offramp.

Chaos reined once again on the N3 north just before Barry Marais offramp, as three trucks were set ablaze last night (November 3). Fire fighters from the City of Ekurhuleni (Vosloorus fire station) received the call at 22:27 and immediately responded to the scene for intervention.

On arrival, a multi-load truck was already surrounded by fire and while fire fighters attended to the scene, two more trucks burst into flames and the freeway was surrounded by a dense cloud of carbon smoke.

According to William Ntladi (Ekurhuleni District Manager Media Liaison: Emergency Services) backup from Wadeville and Zonkizizwe fire stations were dispatched to help control the blazing fire. They successfully managed to salvage the third truck’s trailers but due to the magnitude of the fire, the other two trucks could not be saved.

Officials closed the N3 temporarily and diverted traffic via the R550 Kliprivier Road. The drivers of the trucks were not found on scene and their whereabouts are unknown. No casualties were recorded on scene and the reason for the torching is still under investigation by the applicable law enforcement units.
