Cellphone tower robbed

Three armed robbers overpowered a security guard on October 26 at around 04:00 at a cellphone tower in Van Zyl Street. They took eight batteries as well as the security guard’s cellphones.

Hijackers, using a white Volkswagen Golf 7 with blue lights managed to strike twice in one day on October 29 at the Benoni offramp on the N3. In the first incident, a Toyota Hilux was hijacked and stripped of its tracking device. The 33-year-old driver was forced into the vehicle and later left next to the road. Later that evening a 32-year-old driver was also pulled over and hijacked in his Toyota Hilux bakkie. Using the same modus operandi, the victim was also forced into his own vehicle and later dropped off next to the road. Captain Thivhulawi Tshilate (spokesperson) of Heidelberg SAPS, urges road users to always be vigilant while driving. Avoid picking up hitchhikers, closely monitor following vehicles and do not stop next to the road.

Body found

An unknown African male’s half naked body was found on October 29 near Spaarwater next to the R23. His hands and feet were tied and blood was visible on his face. The deceased is of medium height and weight with medium length dreadlocks and was wearing red and white BVD underwear and a green golf shirt. Police are appealing to anyone who might be able to help in identifying the victim or have information on the circumstances surrounding the victim’s death to phone Heidelberg Detective Branch on 016 341 0422/09.
