Conserve water warns Rand Water

Recent power outage in Heidelberg impacted reservoir levels.

Lesedi Local Municipality has issued a statement from Rand Water cautioning consumers to use water sparingly after the power outage on Wednesday (September 18). This was as a result of a veld fire in the Suikerbosrand Nature Reserve which affected Eskom’s Snowden sub-station.

Due to the electricity problem, Rand Water’s Zuikerbosch Plant and its Lethabo pumping stations could not pump water.

This affected several reservoir levels and might still have a remaining effect for some time. The situation is made worse by higher temperatures resulting in increased water demands. Rand Water has thanked Eskom for having restored the power supply and the fire fighters who helped to extinguish the fire.

Rand Water asks consumers to use water sparingly to allow the reservoirs to recover.
