Public Protector hot on Lesedi Local Municipality’s case
The complaint was lodged three years ago in 2016.
The Public Protector Advocate Bususiwe Mkhwebane is busy with a full investigation into Lesedi Local Municipality with regards to allegations of irregular appointments, tender irregularities (regarding the Mayoral Golf Day and State of Municipal Address), fraud and corruption. The complaint was lodged three years ago in 2016.
The allegations include the irregular appointment of Ms MJ Melato as Manager: Special Programs with regards to the Mayor’s annual golf day and State of the Municipal Address. It is also alleged that the former Municipal Manager Mr Ayanda Makhanya irregularly approved the appointment.
There were also complaints about former acting MM Isaac Rampedi for misconduct.
The Public Protector released a preliminary report which is still subject to finalization once comments from LLM have been received.
The municipality has 10 days to respond.
