UPDATE: One classroom at school in Bergsig destroyed in fire
Municipal workers are the ‘heroes’ of the day of fire at Mountain View High School
Six municipal workers of Lesedi Local Municipality played a crucial role in preventing the fire from spreading to other prefabricated classrooms.
The workers from the plumbing department were on their way to Jameson Park when they noticed a thick cloud of smoke whilst passing Bergsig just after 14:00. Members of Heidelberg CPF also responded quickly to the scene when neighbours notified them of a fire at the school.
The municipal workers grabbed hoses and started to douse the classroom.
According to neighbours, they saw two suspect males entering the school just before the fire started, but this could not yet be confirmed by Heidelberg SAPS.
