Team RSA claims victory at African Nations Cup Eventing

Adrienne claims second position in most promosing child division, sixth individual place

Adrienne MacDonald Hutcheson and Waterford Flash didn’t let young age stop them from competing in the prestigious African Shield Eventing in Zimbabwe from April 11 to 14. She took overall sixth place out of 36 competitors. Adrienne was also part of the South Africa Eventing team that took overall first place from six participating African countries.

Adrienne (11) started riding horses at the age of two and a half due to a balance problem. She took to the horse like a ‘duck to water’ and was hooked immediately. Since then Adrienne has always been riding. She has competed in various events across the country. She is the youngest competitor to ever partake at the African Shield Cup. Adrienne was head hunted by an international scout that invited her to partake in two eventing competitions, from there Adrienne was selected to be part of the South African team going to Zimbabwe.

Waterford Flash and Adrienne MacDonald Hutcheson, Duty Dance and Sarah-Jane Clarke, Dragon’s Lari, drew Munro and Texican with Sean Miller is the SA Team after winning the African Shield which was held in Zimbabwe.

Eventing is done in three stages: Dressage, Show Jumping and Cross Country horse riding. On asking Adrienne what her future goal is, she said: “I would love to be an international horse rider, and to participate in a competition in Germany.”

For Adrienne the next upcoming qualifier event is in Underburg on May 18. The event will qualify Adrienne for interprovincial colours, after that it’s the SA Championships in George.
