Third Nigerian nabbed for possession of and dealing in drugs

Members from the EMPD Drug Enforcement Unit responded to a tip off and discovered drugs valued at over R5 000 in his possession.

NIGEL – Another foreign national was arrested and charged with possession of and dealing in narcotics. This brings the total to three Nigerian suspects arrested by the police on similar charges in the last two to three months.

According to EMPD spokesperson Chief Supt Wilfred Kgasago, the 36-year-old Nigerian man was arrested around 13:00 on February 10 at his home in Northern Road, when members from the EMPD Drug Enforcement Unit responded to a tip off and discovered drugs valued at over R5 000 in his possession. He was detained at SAPS Nigel.

“During the raid, EMPD officers discovered numerous bags (ziplock bags) containing crystal methamphetamine, LSD and dagga, hidden inside a stuffed teddy bear. The estimated street value of the drugs roughly amounts to R5 600. Police also found R2 500 cash, which is believed to be proceeds from the illicit selling of drugs,” Chief Supt Kgasago said.

The suspect was detained at SAPS Nigel and appeared in Nigel Magistrate’s Court on February 11.
