SASSA hands school uniforms to Sithokomele Primary School

The packs were handed out by Gauteng Department of Social Development in partnership with South African Social Security Agency

HEIDELBERG – A total of 220 excited learners celebrated after they received brand new school uniforms (consisting of a pair of shoes, pair of socks, jersey, tunic/trouser, vest and underpants.)

The packs were handed out by Gauteng Department of Social Development in partnership with South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) on January 31 to learners at Sithokomele Primary School.

Social Development MEC Nandi Mayathula-Khoza hands a school uniform package to Molefe Lebohang (Grade 2) on January 31 at Sithokomele Primary School.

Social Development MEC Nandi Mayathula-Khoza says the handover is part of the Gauteng Provincial Government’s (GPG) school readiness programme to ensure that children from vulnerable families acquire school uniforms.

“As the government of Gauteng, we are thrilled and excited about the amount of work our children have put towards their schooling. Indeed, we are also delighted that the school uniforms are manufactured locally by our women-owned cooperatives as government continues to increase support for the revitalisation of the township economy,” Mrs Mayathula-Khoza said.
