Importance of firearm training for correctional officials highlighted
The event highlighted the fact that all correctional officials require regular firearm training.
NIGEL – Nigel Correctional Centre management, under the auspices of security divisional head Katiso Rantlha, arranged a surprise certificate handover ceremony for six correctional officials who recently completed their firearm training.
All certificates are accredited by the South African Safety and Security Training Association (SASSETA). The ceremony took place at Nigel Correctional Services on January 17 and was graced by the area commissioner’s Corporate Services Mr ES Zulu from Modderbee Management Area.
The event highlighted the fact that all correctional officials require regular firearm training to remind them of the correct and legal use thereof in emergency situations.
“The purpose of the ceremony was to encourage other correctional officials to attend similar training or at least stay abreast with the new Firearm Act,” Rantlha said.
The recipients were delighted to receive their certificates and said they are humbled by the gesture that management has recognised their efforts for completing the required training course.
