Heidelberg Mall announces Cangro 2018 winners

After launching its first Cangro project on October 18, Heidelberg Mall centre management in collaboration with the Cangro team, returned to Boneha Primary and Sithokomele Primary School to monitor and evaluate the plant nurturing progress.

Cangro is a proudly South African sustainable development, ‘green’ initiative in the progressive educational and food security space, which teaches children how to grow food from plants that hangs upside down.

 
A total of 305 Grade 3 learners each received an upside down tomato plant and was encouraged to nurture it over a period of three months, leading up to a prizegiving event which took place at Heidelberg Mall on November 28.

 
The following learners from both schools were announced as Heidelberg Mall’s Cangro 2018 Top 30 achievers: Lufuno Mncayi, Melokuhle Nowandwe, Gugu Motaung, Nontoko Mkhonzo, Ntando Ngema, Katleho Letshela, Ayanda Kubeka, Yonwabani Mtshizo, Sipho Mbambo, Levato Thabethe, Musa Ngema, M Mathapelo, Lungile Ncamile, M Nomaxabiso, Sphesihle Ndlelo, Mpho Mathe, Teboho Mokoena, Ntombi Tserane, Hlahane Nomfundo, Nyathi Loveness, Pooe Tshiamo, Edgar Hlanga, Motloung Thabang, Takatso Moloi, Mlangeni Mpho, Moloko Maluleka, Benolo Leroma, Nyakallo Tsotetsi and Katleho Mofokeng.

 
The Cangro 2018 teacher of the year award went to Moeketsi Moremi  from Boneha Primary School and Thabile Tsotetsi from Sithokomele Primary School. The people’s choice award (most popular as per Facebook poll went to Gugu Motaung (Sithokomele Primary School) and she won a Razor scooter. Edgar Hlanga from Boneha Primary School was the runner-up and he also received a Razor scooter.

 
The grand prize for the overall winner resulted in a tie where both Katleho Letshela and Lufuno Mncayi from Sithokomele Primary School each received a brand new bicycle. Boneha Primary School was announced as the Cangro 2018 school of the year, while Lebogang Legwale from Heidelberg Mall received a certificate for changemaker of the year.

Edgar Hlanga from Boneha Primary School was the runner-up in the Cangro 2018 people’s choice category and he won a Razor scooter.

 

Katleho Letshela and Lufuno Mncayi from Sithokomele Primary School each received a brand new bicycle as overall winners of Heidelberg Mall’s Cangro 2018 project, while Lebogang Legwale (middle) from Heidelberg Mall received a certificate for changemaker of the year.
