SASSA cards expire 15 December

Should a recipient fail to apply for a new card, before December 15 no SASSA grant will be paid out.

The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) has warned residents that the old type  white SASSA cards expire at the end of December and will be replaced with a gold coloured card. These cards have to be replaced before December 15 to receive the normal SASSA grant in January.

Mr Bongani Simelane, office manager at SASSA Heidelberg, told HERAUT that to renew one’s card, an ID book or new Slim ID must be presented. Residents who do not have an ID or Slim ID card must bring a temporary ID obtained from the Department of Home Affairs.

Simelane said there are 68 recipients from Duduza local office, 981 from Heidelberg local office, 847 from Kwa Thema local office, 3610 from Springs local office and 1639 from Tsakane local office that still need to replace their old type white SASSA card.

Should a recipient fail to apply for a new card, before December 15 no SASSA grant will be paid out.

He invites all mothers of newborn babies to apply for a child support grant and those with children with disability, to apply for a care dependency grant.
Every application will be subjected to means test and a screening process.

Residents are also requested to change their physical address when they move.

Fraudulent use of a SASSA card should be reported to 0800 60 10 11.
