Lesedi Municipal workers said they are aggrieved about certain issues such as the fact that employees are given ‘unroadworthy vehicles from Ekurhuleni to work with’.

In a four page memorandum, SAMWU requested that amongst others, the following issues be addressed by councillor Maloka within seven days:

• the victimisation of former municipal manager Paul Mpele
• the instability within the senior management structure of the municipality
• the silent wholesale of municipal land
• the sitting of MMC Moremi in the supply chain bid committee to influence the outcomes of the Security tender process
• a detailed report on what happened to the money generated from the trust in Heidelberg Mall

“LLM has been hijacked by looters masquerading as councillors, and has as a result thereof become unstable,” William Masela, chairperson of SAMWU said.

Some of SAMWU’s demands as set out in die memorandum, include:

• that an investigation be commissioned on the missing vehicles by the end of November
• that the personal protection equipment and other health and safety tools be issued to employees twice a year
• that councillor Maloka requests intervention from the minister, the provincial executive committee of the ANC and the MEC of CoGTA by November 15 on the matter of Paul Mbele
• that all employees work in accordance with their job descriptions and be provided with the correct tools to execute the task at hand
• an investigation into the Heidelberg Mall Trust and beneficiaries thereof.

Councillor Maloka accepted the memorandum and confirmed that SAMWU will receive a written reply within seven days.
