HEIDELBERG – The Lesedi Community Centre (LCC) Challenge 4 Hope event was hosted at the Lezar Opstal on October 13.
It was the second consecutive event of its kind and according to Jaco Kritzinger, spokesperson for the project, a total of 861 entries were received.
The proceeds of the event will be divided amongst various charity organisations. LCC is the main beneficiary of the Challenge for Hope event and is a non-profit organisation where members of the Heidelberg community find hope in the form of various programmes such as feeding schemes, community projects, training and spiritual upliftment. The aim of the centre is to help the needy and provide them with the necessary skills needed to become self sufficient.
“There was no set objective regarding the fundraising amount and we are very grateful to all who made donations and supported this day. Heidelberg’s people have big hearts and it is with great delight that we see how the community cares for and helps the less fortunate,“ Kritzinger said.
He also thanked the sponsors who made the event possible and further extended a heart warming thanks to Eddie Baird for his tireless work as main organiser as well as Lezar Opstal and each and every farmer who allowed them to use their farms for the event. “We also have to thank every volunteer who helped to make this event successful.”
Kritzinger said the next event will be in 2019 and a date will be announced later.
The event, which started around 07:30 under cloudy weather conditions was a spectacular success.
The winners of the different categories at the LCS Challenge 4 Hope were announced as follows:
- 60km female winners were Elizma Wheeler in the first place, Ilze Nel second and Gizelde Strauss third. The male winners were Daniel Griesel in the first place with Johan Boonzaier second place and Dana Schutte in third place.
- Cynthia Bekker was the winner of the 45km female cycling challenge with Vanessa Juby in second place and Sonja Greyling in third.
- Konrad Spanig won the male race with Jean van Staden in second place and Camden Kench third.
- In the 30 km female category Sonja Cronje took first place followed by Sasha Ruizendaal in second and Helena Joubert in third.
- The male winner was Stephan Ruizendaal, second place went to Hannes Pretorius and third place to Renaldo le Roux.
- Wiepke Schoeman took first place in the 10km female fun run, Marietjie Botha second and Ronel Beekhuizen in third place.
- In the male 10km fun run male category Noko Lamola was first place winner and Jan Modipa came second and in third place was Ndivhuho Mukwevho.
- Anneke Joubert took first place in the 10km combined social walk and cycling with Cyanda Bekker second and Meliny van der Merwe in third place.
- The males performed well with Jaco Vermaak first, Henroux Moll second and Francois Meyer third.
